Children grieve differently than adults. Children have much less life experiences that they can fall back on as they try to cope with how they are feeling.
Since 1997, through our TLC program for Kids, hundreds of grieving children have learned valuable coping skills and positive ways of expressing their feelings in a productive and effective manner at no financial cost to their families. TLC is a 9 week commitment and groups are facilitated by highly trained volunteers in Burlington, Hamilton, Niagara and Brant County locations.
Caregivers Supporting Children (CSC), runs concurrently with our TLC program, to provide parents and caregivers with insights into children's grief. These sessions will be a combination of support and education for the caregivers on children's grief. This program requires a commitment of 9 consecutive weeks from caregivers and children.
Children who have attended the group support, have most often experienced the death of a sibling, parent, grandparent or someone the were close to who died. They often feel less alone in their grief experience after participating in the program.
Community resources such as the Children’s Aid Society, teachers, funeral homes, family doctors and community social workers refer grieving children to our TLC program. BFO programs are offered at no cost to the participants thanks to the support of companies and agencies however, donations are greatly appreciated.
